Prescriptions
Using the NHS App to manage repeat prescriptions
Repeat Prescriptions online – we use the NHS App
The easiest way to manage repeat prescriptions is by downloading the NHS App. You can use this to request a repeat prescription and we can also choose a chemist you would like your prescription sent to – saving you having to come to the surgery.
Please note we will require 3 working days to process your prescription.
Using the NHS App on your phone
If you are a mobile phone user the easiest way to see your test results and view and download your medical record is to use the official NHS App.
Use it to view:
- Your medication and repeat prescriptions
- Test results
- Allergies
- Immunisations
To use it the first time, you will need to have some photo ID such as a passport or driving license so that the NHS can verify your identity, but you only have to do that once.

If you have any issues using or downloading the app, check the NHS App help and support page.
Please note if you require full access to your medical records, you’ll need to compete this form and send it to stpaulswaymedical@nhs.net.
Once full access to your medical records has been granted we will let you know via text.

Prescription Fees
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
- those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
- those who are age exempt
- those with certain medical conditions
NHS Charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.65
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
- 3-month PPC: £31.25
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
